BIOGRAPHY - BERNARD M. RESNICK, ESQ.

picture of bernieBernard Max Resnick, Esq. practices in the fields of sports, entertainment and communications law. He also serves as an entertainment manager and record producer. His firm is headquartered in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Before forming the firm in 1999, Mr. Resnick served as counsel to Zane Management, Inc., a sports and entertainment consulting/management firm founded by Lloyd Zane Remick, Esq., and he was also "Of Counsel" to the law firms Burditt & Radzius, Chartered; Remick Martone, P.C.; and Astor Weiss & Newman.

Mr. Resnick graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY in 1983, where he double-majored in Political Science and Music. He received his J.D. from the Villanova University School of Law in Villanova, PA in 1986. While attending law school, he won second prize in the ASCAP Nathan Burkan Memorial Copyright Law national writing competition.

Mr. Resnick's first job in the entertainment law field was in the summer of 1985, when he worked as a clerk at the British firm Simons, Muirhead, Allan & Burton in Covent Garden, London. There, Mr. Resnick received his first exposure to top-level talent as he assisted British solicitor Robert Allan, Esq. with the contractual needs of recording artists, including Dire Straits, Culture Club, Wham! and Deep Purple.

After graduation from law school, Mr. Resnick practiced under the tutelage of the late First Amendment expert Albert B. Gerber, Esq., at the firm of Galfand, Berger, Senesky, Lurie & March.

After his tenure as an associate of Mr. Gerber, Mr. Resnick began a decade of association with renowned entertainment attorney Lloyd Zane Remick, Esq., and Zane Management, Inc. Mr. Resnick was involved in the management and legal representation of clients such as two-time Grammy Award recipient and Sony/Columbia Jazz recording artist Grover Washington, Jr.; Capitol/Blue Note recording artists Pieces of a Dream; CTI Jazz producer/songwriter/recording artist Charles Fambrough; Olympic gold medallist and two-time WBA Welterweight Boxing Champion Meldrick Taylor; IBF Middleweight Boxing Champion Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins; various NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL athletes, television and radio anchors, sportscasters, and DJ's; and numerous other celebrities, athletes and entertainers.

Mr. Resnick is a member of both the Pennsylvania and District of Columbia Bars. He has also been a member of the American Bar Association Forum Committee on the Entertainment and Sports Industries, as well as the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and District of Columbia Bar Associations, the Music Managers Forum, and The Musical Fund Society, which is the oldest philanthropic music organization in the United States.

Mr. Resnick has served as Chairman of the Membership Subcommittee for Classical Recording Artists of the Mid-Atlantic Branch of the Recording Academy (NARAS). He has lectured extensively on entertainment and sports law to student and community groups, as well as to other attorneys interested in the entertainment and sports fields, as detailed below.

Mr. Resnick owns the ASCAP-affiliated music publishing company A Max Entertainment Publishing and the BMI-affiliated music publishing company B Max Entertainment Publishing. He is a co-owner of the independent record company Ground Zero Entertainment, Ltd., which has released CD's by recording artists Grinch and Da Foundation. Mr. Resnick produced and performed on Classical Requests, a classical music CD released by BMP Records. He has co-written songs which have been included on nationally- distributed CD's, and which have been featured on nationally-televised programs.

For over ten years, Mr. Resnick taught courses in Entertainment Law, Copyright Law, Publishing, Business Law and Multi Media Law at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. Together with his wife, Priscilla J. "Sally" Mattison, he has also taught Music Business Management at KAJEM Recording Arts Academy at Cabrini College. Mr. Resnick is also a regular lecturer to both undergraduate and graduate students at Temple University's Sports Management Program. Mr. Resnick's articles and photographs on the subjects of travel, entertainment and sports have been published in the Philadelphia Inquirer, New Orleans Times-Picayune, Travel-Holiday Magazine, and International Boxing Digest. Mr. Resnick and Lloyd Zane Remick are currently co-authoring a chapter for a forthcoming undergraduate level Sports Law textbook, and a novel entitled "Entertainment Biz 101".

Mr. Resnick's "Symposium Discussion on the Record Industry's Perspective", which was jointly presented with Kevon Glickman, Esq. at the "Napster: Innocent Innovation or Egregious Infringement?" CLE program has been published in Volume IX, Issue 1, of the 2002 edition of Villanova Sports & Entertainment Law Journal.

Along with Lloyd Z. Remick, Esq., Mr. Resnick co-authored a chapter entitled "Labor Relations in Professional Sports", in the undergraduate-level textbook entitled "The Management of Sport - Its Foundation and Application", edited by Professor Bonnie L. Parkhouse, published in 2004 by McGraw-Hill Higher Education.

Mr. Resnick has also been the subject of articles and media interviews. During the early part of his career, the Philadelphia Bar Association's magazine The Shingle featured Mr. Resnick as one of the top 35 young attorneys in the city. More recently, Mr. Resnick's views and advice on the subject of product placement were featured in Philadelphia Enterpriser magazine; E! Entertainment Television featured him in the nationally-televised program "It's Good To Be... Will Smith and Jada Pinckett"; and he is frequently interviewed or mentioned in Philadelphia Style Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia CityPaper.

PERSONAL:

Mr. Resnick has performed as a double-bassist in the Main Line Symphony since 1983, and has served as Main Line Symphony's Principal Bassist since 1991. He also performs in the Philadelphia Doctors' Chamber Orchestra. He has completed the two-year art history and appreciation course at the world-renowned Barnes Foundation, located in Merion, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Resnick is married to Priscilla J. Mattison, Esq., a former film director/producer/ screenwriter who now practices law with her husband's firm.
